OLED Mobile Phone Shipments Surged 43% In The First Half Of The Year

July 19th, 2024

On July 18th, according to Counterpoint Research, citing DSCC's "Advanced Smartphone Display Shipment and Technology Report," OLED smartphone shipments increased by 50% year-on-year and revenue increased by 3% in the first quarter of 2024.

It is expected that OLED smartphone shipments will increase by 43% year-on-year and revenue will increase by 7% year-on-year in the first half of 2024.

It is expected that in 2024, OLED smartphone shipments will increase by 21% year-on-year, and panel revenue will increase by 3% year-on-year.

Senior Director David Naranjo stated that due to the decline in average selling price (ASP) of panels and a steadily improving macroeconomic environment, as well as better than expected performance in the first quarter of 2024, it is expected that the shipment growth of OLED smartphones will reach double digits in 2024. The latest economic indicators show that the inflation environment is stabilizing, and there are signs that artificial intelligence and new models from companies such as Samsung and Apple will strongly drive this growth trend and form a super cycle.

The organization expects OLED smartphone shipments to increase by 21% year-on-year and revenue to increase by 3% year-on-year in 2024, with flexible OLED shipments growing by 13% year-on-year, foldable OLED shipments growing by 26% year-on-year, and rigid OLED shipments growing by 46% year-on-year.

By brand, Apple phones are expected to take the lead in 2024, with a shipment share and smartphone device revenue share of 29% and 50%, respectively, lower than the 36% and 52% in 2023. This is due to the growth in market share of brands such as Honor, Huawei, OPPO, Samsung, Vivo, and Xiaomi. Samsung is expected to boost its market share on the back of a 49% year-on-year increase in shipments.
